Now that the MFA application season is running full tilt, we'd like to open our recruitment forum. The purpose of this year's forum will be twofold: 1. We'd like to have a place to post the answers to the most common questions we receive via e-mail and on the telephone. 2. We'd like provide a venue for recruits to question our students here at Greensboro.

I was curious what your requirements on the GRE are? My writing score is high; the math and verbal...eh. Should I take the test again? I hope I'm posting this in the right place!
thanks
Lucas Flatt
Hi Lucas,
For us, the GRE is very low on the list of materials in your application package.
We're interested, first and foremost, in your writing sample. Next would be your letters of rec, then your GPA (the graduate school likes a 3.0 in your major), and last and least of all, the GRE.
And, as far as that goes, it sounds to me like you did well on the part that would count for a creative writing program.
Every school is a little different, so I would recommend finding out the specific policies of the other programs you are applying to. However, for us, I don't see any reason for you to sit for that monster again.
- terry
Well, that is a relief. Thank you for your response. One other question: my undergrad GPA is not stellar. I have a MA in Lit, though, and held a 4.0 while earning that. Sorry to bombard with questions...my wife recently informed me that she hates her job and wants to go back to school...so I'm scrambling to apply as well.
Is it possible to submit GRE scores after the Jan. 1 deadline?
Lucas,
Your MA in LIT transcripts would take preference over your undergrad.
- tk
Anonymous,
As you have all of your other materials submitted by the January 1 deadline, it's okay to have your GRE scores come in a little later. That said, no official decision can be made on your application until it's complete, so I wouldn't wait to long to sit for the exam.

Terry,
Thanks!
Lucas
What are the chances that an incoming grad student could land an RA? I'm dirt poor and would pretty much need financial help to go to UNC Greensboro ... but I really like everything I've learned about the school / program.
Also, if I could get an RA (I don't have a MA yet), how likely is it that I could get more help for the second year, like a TA, or RA again?
thanks!
I was wondering if you could give me an idea of the Greensboro's MFA program acceptance rate.
Also, how open are you to literary fiction that crosses into fantastical/sci fi realms? When I say this, I'm thinking of books like Bradbury's Farenheight 451, and Huxley's Brave New World, Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, etc. Thanks very much for your time.
Hi Laura,
We try our best to find a assistantships for all of our students. The class that entered in the Fall of 2008 was an unusual one in that we were unable to find funding for 1 of our incoming students--we haven't given up yet, though!
I'm speaking off the top of my head here, but, I believe this is the first time since 1998 that we haven't been unable to find an RA or GA for every incoming student who wanted one.
Assistantships outside of our department don't always pay the same as the ones inside the department but they generally come with the same tuition waivers, which, in all cases, is the real benefit.
Anonymous,
We are a very selective program accepting around 9% of the applicants who apply each year.
As for your questions about genre: Two of our graduates Kelly Link and Warren Rochelle both write "literary fiction that crosses into fantastical/sci fi realms" but I wouldn't say that it's a focus of our workshop.
You might look at some of the work that Craig Nova, one member of our fiction faculty, and see if it bends genre in a way that interests you.
Hi Terry,
Thanks very much, I really appreciate your prompt response.
The online application form has a page that says "Upload personal statement here." It gives no more information than that. When I asked the Graduate School Applications office for more info on what was wanted, she sent me to the Creative Writing page, saying that the requirement for the personal statement varies between departments. The Creative Writing page, aside from outlining the writing sample requirements, has no specifics on completing the application but instead says to go the Graduate School Applications page for more information. Does the writing sample take the place of the personal statement in this case? Or is a separate personal statement required? If so, are there any guidelines on length, etc.? Thank you!
Hi Theresa,
We don't require a personal statement. However, if you have one, I do recommend that you include a current resume/cv when you send your writing sample. We often find them helpful when trying to locate assistantships.
- terry
No personal statement? I knew I liked Greensboro! :)
I will definitely attach my resume along with my application. Does an unsolicited CV get any extra points?
Should our paper letters of recommendation go to the UNCG graduate office or directly to the MFA program?
I have already e-mailed this question to the Chair, but I guess it couldn't hurt to ask here... I am currently enrolled in the masters of library science program at UNCG. I wish to apply for the MFA program instead - will you need my GRE score and all of my letters and transcripts again?
Also, what emphasis, if any, does the department have on creative non-fiction?
Thank you!
Jamie
Hi Jamie,
The Graduate School should have your GRE scores and transcripts on file, so you won't need to resubmit them but you may need to request that they place with your new application. Although it's not absolutely necessary, we would prefer fresh letters of recommendation, especially since this is a different field.
- terry
Hi Anonymous,
Your paper letters of recommendation should be sent directly to the graduate school.
- terry
Would you happen to know where I should send my GRE scores? I have the university code as 5913. Is there a departmental code that I should also supply?
Thanks,
Lucas
Hi Lucas,
That's it--that will send it to The Graduate School and they'll add it to the information sheet that they send over to us.
- terry
I'm applying to the UNCG MFA program, and I submitted a GRE score report request that included the code for the creative writing department. Should I have sent it to the graduate school directly, rather than sending it to the department? I see from an above question that it would have been appropriate to omit the department code.
Thanks,
Katie
My understanding is that I only need to submit a Writing Sample and a CV/Resume (optional) to the Writing Program. Could you please let me know if official transcripts (or any other item) should also be included with these writing program submissions?
Thanks - and thanks for this blog!
Jennifer
Hi Katie,
I believe that ETS submits all of those scores electronically now, so they should end up at The Graduate School regardless. However, if paper copies do show up in our Office, we immediately forward them over.
- terry
Hi Jennifer,
It sounds like you've got it. Nothing but your writing sample and an optional cv/resume should be sent directly us here at the Program.
- terry
I saw two different dates for the deadline: Jan 1 and March 1. Which is correct?
Hi Anonymous,
We actually have two deadlines:
1. January first is our priority deadline and the one the program recommends.
2. March first is the University deadline and the absolute last day for applicants to have all of their materials submitted, processed, and received by the MFA Writing Program office.
- terry
I had decided to stop berating you with questions, but, as your blog is so darned helpful, I have a final question: your application page says fiction writers can submit short stories or several chapters. Is it acceptable to do both? I want to submit an excerpt from a longer work--a novella, actually--and also include a short story in its entriety. Thanks, once again, for your time and attention.
Hi Lucas,
I don't mind the questions at all. Quite often, applicants send a short story plus a segment of a novel, so what your planning to send should be just fine.
- terry
Do I need to submit my writing sample in the online application where it asks me to upload a personal statement, or do I ignore this section and submit my writing sample as a hardcopy directly to the Writing Program? Also: should my resume be sent as a hardcopy along with the writing sample?
Thanks.
Hi Greg,
We would prefer that you send us your writing sample (and if you have one your cv/resume) directly to us at The Writing Program. That said, since there is space, it couldn't hurt to go ahead and upload these documents to the online application as well. That way, we're sure to have copies in case of some sort of postal snafu.
- terry
Hi Terry,
Nice job on here! This blog is darn convenient!
I understand that a personal statement is not required. Though, now, I'm a bit confused because I have been trying to submit my application online and they will not let me submit it because my personal statement has not been uploaded.. Should I instead sneak my CV in its place? Or might you have any idea to troubleshoot?
Thanks!
Chelsea Querner
Hi Chelsea,
I'm not sure why the system won't let you upload your application without a personal state but, yes, I would say go ahead and submit your cv in it's place.
- terry
A last last last minute question:
The person answering the phone in the CW office confirmed that someone would be in the office until January 1st to receive walk-up submissions. Since I'll be in town the 31st and 1st, I'd plan to submit my writing sample one of those days.
Now I'm having a last minute freakout after speaking with some concerned family members--maybe I wasn't clear so she misheard me and gave me false information...
I suppose I should have double-checked at an earlier point, but I didn't, and here I am.
So will someone be in the office on 12/31 or 1/1? If not, can I still drop off my sample?
Hello!
I am an out of state applicant, but I do hope to be driving through North Carolina this upcoming spring semester at some point. Does the Creative Writing program have anything in place if I wanted to drop in and visit? Or would I be best to contact the Graduate School in general?
Thank you!
Ashley
Hi Ashley,
Depending on when you're coming through town, we're always happy for folks to drop by the office and meet some our students. Just a give Jim a call a few weeks ahead of time.
- terry
We've been getting a lot of questions about the FAFSA form.
Although we don't recommend taking out student loans to pay for your MFA in creative writing (your post-graduate pay is just not going to be that good), we do recommend that everyone fill out the FAFSA form.
Quite often we here of special scholarships and assistantships for graduate students that are based on financial need. If you haven't filled out the FAFSA, then you reduce your chances of getting one of these pieces of money.
- terry
Hi I'm not looking to apply this year but perhaps in the next or the following. My question, however, is about writing styles. Would you say that your program looks for a particular kind of writer engaged in a particular style? I ask, as I wonder if my work is "literary" enough. I've had experiences with writing for performance and stage but have worked to hone my skills to translate the poetic story and narrative of my work on page. Just wanted to see if you could give any insight on that. Thanks for whatever you can offer!
Hi Malaya,
That's a good question--and a tough one. First off, I would suggest that you not worry about your writing being "literary" enough. Many of our most successful graduates have come in to the program without English or Creative Writing Backgrounds. Secondly, You should read the work of our faculty. These will be the writers you are working with while you are here and it's probably the best determinate of "style".
A Near-Final Recruitment Update
Although we make no bones about having the slowest recruitment process out there, it's been an usually slow year here in Greensboro. Part of this has to do with the number of really great applications we've received, and part of it has to do with the exorbitant amount of time Jim Clark is having to spend trying to locate, finesse, and finagle additional assistantships for incoming students.
I'm sure that Jim has told those of you he's talked to (and I agree), it's rarely worth it for someone to pay out-of-state tuition to get an M.F.A. The return is rarely there.
The bottom line is, we expect a student to come to a studio program like ours to improve their writing--but the payback for a young writer is not often in $$$.
Jim Clark and I have been doing our best to respond to everyone's email and phone calls but, honestly, there have been more status update requests than we have been able to handle.
Here's where Greensboro is as of today:
The committee's goal is to have the majority of their recommendations to the Graduate School by Friday with the rest to follow on Monday.
Given the chaos of our files right now--many of them are in the conference room where the committee meets--the fastest way to get an update is through the online application system with The Graduate School: http://www.uncg.edu/grs/prospective/appstat.html
Everyone will get official letters from The Graduate School and, of course, Jim and I will continue to answer as many emails and phone calls as we can.

2010 Recruitment Wrap-Up
First off, we would like to thank all of our applicants for your patience with both our slow recruitment process and the kinks the UNCG Graduate School has been experiencing with our new ApplyYourself system.
As of today, we have made all of the acceptances we are going to be able to make for the Fall of 2010. Right up through last Friday, we had hoped our Department Head or Dean would come through with additional funding but this did not happen.
Because of the delays with the notification letters, Jim Clark has been in touch, by phone, with the applicants the admissions committee recommended for acceptance and everyone should be receiving notification letters (or emails via ApplyYourself) within the next 2 weeks.
Again, we do appreciate everyone's patience. Hopefully, the bumps we experienced this year, will result in a much smoother 2011.
Thanks again,
- terry
My GPA is not a 3.0 but I have my BA in english. My undergrad days are over so can I still to get into the creative writing grad program if I don't have the GPA? I dont't know what I can do to change that
Hi,
There is no getting around the 3.0 G.P.A. requirement in terms of assistantship funding. However, there have been instances in the past where we have been able to obtain provisional admissions for students who have exceptional writing samples and letters of rec. but a low G.P.A.
With a provisional admission, students cannot hold an assistantship and must maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. while carrying a full load the first year.
- terry
Should recommendations for admissions be from one's manager, friends, etc. Can these be strictly letters of recommendations or is it required to have them complete the Recommendation Form? Thanks. Kim Killian
Hi Kim,
These days, The Graduate School prefers that the letters of rec come through the ApplyYourself online application system so that your materials stay together. However, if that's not possible, you can certainly have them mail a letter.
- terry
Hi Terry,
I want to apply for the 2011 school year and am gathering materials right now. I have been out of school for five years (my undergraduate degree was in psychology). Will this put a damper on my consideration for the creative writing program? Also, who are the best candidates for letters of recommendation(i.e. co-worker/friend, previous supervisor, peer writer)? Last, is it possible to come sit in on a class? I would really enjoy that! Sorry for question bombing you.
My senior year of high school, I took one joint enrollment class at a local college, the credits of which transferred to my current college as though it had been an AP class taken in high school (because in many ways, that's what it was). Do I need to send transcripts from both colleges or can I just send the one from my current college? Thanks! Luci Cook
Hi Stephanie,
It's not unusual at all for us to have students who have been out of school for awhile. In that situation, it's best to have recommenders who can speak to you in your current situation.
- terry
Hi Luci,
Since your joint-enrollment class transferred onto your current transcript, there's no need to hunt down that info from the other school. If fact, in a situation like this, I wouldn't even mention that particular college on your application.
- terry
I am currently enrolled at UNCG in the MALS program and plan to graduate in August 2011. I plan to apply to the MFA program for next year. My concentration in undergrad and grad school has been in poetry, but I am also interested in fiction. Do I have to apply to one or the other? If I want to apply to both, do I need a separate application for each one? Thanks for your time! Karen Silvestri
I have 21 graduate credits in English. Will any of these transfer to the MFA program? Thanks! Karen
Hello everyone. As a Black writer, can I speak with any black students that are currently seeking their MFA at Greensboro? Is UNCG dedicated to "diversity."
B
I have four professors who want to write letters of rec for me, is it ok if I send in all four or do I need to pick three?
Thanks
Jessica
Hi Jessica,
It's no problem to send an extra letter of rec.
- terry
Hi there,
I will be applying for 2011 and didn't see any information about submitting a personal statement with my application. Could you please let me know if I've overlooked that information somewhere?
Also, do former faculty weigh heavier than former employers as far as recommendations go? I have been a grant writer for the past 6 years and think my former boss would write me a recommendation.
Thank you!
Jessica Plante-Bauge
Hi Jessica,
Let's see . . .
First, we don't require a personal statement. However, I would recommend that you include a current cv/resume. Jim Clark, the director of our program, finds them helpful when trying to locate Graduate Assistantships for accepted students.
As far as letter of rec, more recent is better. Your writing sample will speak to your writing ability and your GPA will speak to your ability to succeed in the academic classroom. A recent letter of rec can speak to what kind of person you are now, your potential as a colleague and member of our community.
- terry
Thanks, Terry. I now have three faculty recommendations lined up so I'm good to go!
Best,
Jessica
Hi Terry,
My major in undergrad was a science major (Neurobiology) and my overall GPA is slightly below a 3.0 (2.9) however I have taken 5 English/Creative Writing classes with a GPA of 4.1-4.2. Could I still apply although my overall GPA is low?
Thank you!
Anonymous,
I would absolutely still apply. We really value a diversity of majors here, and I believe that Jim Clark, would be able to make an excellent case for your overall GPA vs your English classes.
- terry
Terry,
Thanks so much for providing this awesome resource for prospective MFA students. In terms of transcripts, if we request them to be sent directly to UNCG from our undergraduate institution, is it okay if it gets to you early or should we have it sent to our address and then sent to you with the other hard copy materials? OR is it something that can be scanned and submitted online?
Thanks,
Corrie
Hi Corrie,
From what I understand, The Graduate School will create a file for you if they receive your transcripts earlier than your actual application. One thing you might check on with your institution: Some schools have agreements in place to send each other transcripts electronically and, I believe, it is a little cheaper to do it that way as opposed to having them printed out.
- terry
Hi Terry,
On the Graduate School application online, could you tell me what needs to be uploaded for the 'Supplemental Document B'? I am assuming that A is the writing sample and I didn't read anything about a personal statement.
Thanks!
Jessica B.
Hi!
I was hoping to check with you guys about application fees. I'm applying in two genre's to the MFA program (fiction and poetry) and was wondering if I had to pay the application fee twice...I sent everything else twice because I needed different recommendations for both and so on, so I'm just making sure about the application fee. Thanks!
You only have to pay one application fee, even if you are applying in both genres. Sounds like you're all set.
- terry
Hello! I've been trying to get in touch with someone at UNCG about my application. I was accepted last year, but had to turn it down. I am reapplying this year, but realized I never officially deferred my acceptance. Should I just reapply as if I'm a brand new applicant? If so, my online application will need to be cleared.
Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your help!
I'm in a complicated situation. I'm 28 years old and will be graduating after this upcoming summer semester with a BA in English Lit. I've got great letters of recommendation from two fiction professors and one literature professor and I am taking the GRE on Tuesday. My problem is that when I was younger I made many mistakes in school before I took some time off. I currently have a GPA of 2.1, but with my grades this semester and last, I will be able to receive an academic withdrawal for my bad semester's worth of grades from years ago, plus with my upcoming semesters I will be able to pull up my GPA further. I'm thinking that by the time I graduate, I should either have a 3.0 or be close to it. How much do you think this could hurt me? Since you don't accept a personal statement, is there a way that I could convey this to the app. committee? Any advice?
Hey Marcus,
The committee will be looking first and foremost at your writing sample. That is by far and away the most important thing here.
The GPA is farther down the line and is mainly a consideration when it comes to assistantships--there are certain academic benchmarks the Graduate School looks for in awarding GAs.
However, it sounds to me like you have or will have a 3.0 in major by the time you graduate, so that shouldn't be any problem.
- terry
Hi! I've pretty much finished everything for my online application except for where it asks to upload unofficial transcripts because I don't have electronic copies of my transcripts. If I've already had official transcripts sent, do I still need to provide the unofficial copies with the online application?
Thanks!
Hi Anonymous,
If you've already sent your official transcripts, there's no need to upload the unofficial set.
Best,
terry
Hi! I'm deciding between two programs at UNCG: the MFA and the MA in English following the Writing/Editing track. I hope to become a novelist full-time someday, but would like to work in publishing. Which program do you suggest?
Hi Elijah,
If your first goal is to work in publishing, then I would recommend the MA following the Publishing Track. Dr. Langenfeld is a great resource for a publish career path.
Moreover, having the MA will increase your chances of getting valuable (and ever scarce) funding if you decide to go on and pursue an MFA at a later date.
- terry
Hi Terry,
I was wondering how many of your accepted students for poetry receive financial aid to cover tuition? Also, what are the Randall Jarrell and Fred Chappell fellowships?
Thank you.
Hi Terry,
I was wondering how many of your accepted students for poetry receive financial aid to cover tuition? Also, what are the Randall Jarrell and Fred Chappell fellowships?
Thank you.
Hi Anonymous,
Our funding situation changes from year-to-year and we often don't have everything set (as for as funding goes) until late July. That said, for the past five years (at least), we have found GAs with tuition waivers for all but two of the accepted students who have committed to coming into the program.
The Randall Jarrell and Fred Chappell Fellowships are 1-year, service-free fellowships awarded to outstanding incoming students. All accepted students are considered for these fellowships when they are available.

I went completely dotty this quarter and managed to send the hard copy of my manuscript before the digital one. Should I resend the hard copy?
Also, thanks for running this blog! It's so helpful to read over past questions and it makes the application process slightly less intimidating.
Hi Barrett,
If you've already sent the hard copy, we should have it here waiting to be matched with your digital materials. Our office opens back up next Monday, so you might give us a call sometime late next week to double check.
- terry
Hi - I'm sure this is absolutely the last question you want to answer at the moment, but do you have a rough idea of when the program will send out acceptances/rejections? I see last year it was in early April; do you anticipate the same this year?
thanks!
Michelle
Hi Michelle,
We're just now getting going full-tilt but I expect we'll begin making notifications around March 15th and continue on through the April 15th deadline for Writing Programs and students to commit. Last year, we started working with a new online application system which slowed us down considerably but (hopefully!) we've worked all the kinks out now.
- terry
Thanks, Terry. That knowledge relieves (a tiny portion of) the anxiety of waiting for responses.
-Michelle
Hi Terry,
I didn't end up applying this year to the writing program. It was a choice between counseling and writing, and I couldn't make up my mind! I ended up applying to the counseling, but I cannot give up my writing. Please tell me this excellent school offers workshops or the a chance to take a course without being in the program. I want to get some instructive insight into where I'm going with my writing as well as constructive criticism and challenge. I may still apply next year. In the meantime...
I'm curious about how you check GRE scores. Do you accept the highest scores that one could make on the test? Or do you take the average of the scores? Or simply the latest exam? Graduate programs differ, so I thought I should ask. Thank you!
Hi,
Your best bet here is to get in touch with The Graduate School and see what their policy is. Over at the MFA Writing Program, we rely on the scores forwarded by The Graduate School who are the keepers of all the credentials.
Here's their web address: http://www.uncg.edu/grs
Best,
terry
I am interested in the MFA program, but I am more of a genre fiction writer than a literary fiction writer. I am one of those good old fashioned sci-fi/fantasy nerds. Does the Creative Writing program accept those kinds of works? Some schools only want literary fiction, so I thought I'd ask. Thank you.
Hi,
We do have alums who've gone into SciFi/Fantasy: Kelly Link and Warren Rochelle, to name two. However, our current faculty do focus more on literary fiction than genre fiction and that's what your primary classroom instruction would be geared around. If working with someone who is practicing in the genre is really important to you, you might look at NC State, who has John Kessell on faculty.

I don't know if this blog is still open, but I have a questions.
I am wanting to apply to both the MA & the MFA programs. Will I need to submit an application fee twice?
Also does the MFA application need a critical writing sample? Or is it just the creative writing sample?
Thanks so much for the blog. It really fills in the holes.
Hi Megan,
I'm not sure how the application fee works when submitting to multiple programs. It would probably be best to call over to The Graduate School and get an answer straight from the source. Their number is: 336.334.5596
As for the writing sample--all we require is your creative work. No need for a critical paper or a personal statement.
- terry
Hi, thanks for this blog and all the helpful answers. I have yet another question about the personal statement. I see that it's not required-- is it discouraged? I planned on including one that's about 500 so that I can discuss my previous teaching experience. If it isn't discouraged and I include it, then I should attach my CV to the same document, correct?
Thanks again!!
Hi Jo,
It's not a problem to include a personal statement. Just attach it with your cv.
- terry
Hi
I was wondering if it is acceptable to submit letters of recommendation through a document delivery service like Interfolio.
Thank you!
Hi,
It's certainly fine to have your letters of rec delivered through Interfolio. However, you should still have them delivered directly to The Graduate School, who handles all of the application credentials.
- terry
First of all, thank you for all the helpful info already posted here! I am in the process of choosing schools to apply to and getting my MFA package together. I'm fairly certain at this point that Greensboro is making my list as I have a former professor and close friend who has many good things to say about the program. Anyhow, my question is, is there any way to apply for an application fee waver here as there are for some other programs? Secondly, I'm just curious as to whether or not it seems likely that a literary non-fiction track might be added at any point in the future or if it would be possible to incorporate such work and study into one's study and practice of fiction writing. Thanks!
Hi Marragold,
I believe The Graduate School does have a mechanism for students to apply for an application fee waiver in special situations but I'm not sure of the particulars. The best thing to do would be to call them directly. Their number is 336-334-5596.
As for Creative Nonfiction, we don't have plans to add a CNF track in the near future, however we do offer a creative nonfiction workshop each spring that most all of our students take, so you would have the opportunity to study CNF with two different members of the faculty while enrolled.
- terry
This blog has been so helpful in answering a lot of questions!
I can assume that because the program is so competitive, students will not receive acceptance/rejection letters until after the deadline of January 1st, correct?
I submitted my application and sent in the hard-copies of my writing samples last week. Is it okay that I sent my transcripts directly to the MFA office?
Hi Steph,
Our goal each year is to notify everyone by March 15th. Last year we were dreadfully late, but we've made some adjustments and hope that won't happen again.
As for your transcripts, it's best if you send them directly to The Graduate School (your university may even be able to send them electronically). However, if they show up here, we'll carry them over so they'll be your official file.
- terry
Hi,
For the writing sample, the website asks for it to be submited on the online app and then also sent in hard copy, but I can not find any directions (except for number of pages) about how or if they should be number or if my name should be on them or not on them. Does it matter?

Hi Kodi,
We don't have any specific directions, but I would suggest that you include your name on the manuscript just in case it get's separated from your envelope or file. Better to be safe!

Hello!
For those paranoid MFA hopefuls like myself... I mailed my writing sample, but if for some reason the post office fails to deliver it, will you use the writing samples we uploaded to the online application?
Thanks!
Hi Emily,
We still ask for a hard copy of the writing sample because they're generally easier to read than the electronic versions with the application. However, if we don't have it, we'll definitely use the uploaded sample!
- terry
Hello,
In the process of completing my application, I uploaded electronic copies of transcripts from all the undergraduate and graduate schools I have attended. Could you tell me whether I would still need to have official copies sent to UNC at this point, or are the scanned copies sufficient for now?
Thank you,
Luisa
Hi Luisa,
The scanned copies are good for our purposes over here at the MFA Program, but The Graduate School will want official copies. You may be able to have those sent electronically instead of ordering paper copies. I would check with The Graduate School to see if they have an arrangement with your school.

Thanks for this wonderful blog! Does UNCG expect to notify applicants about decisions around the same time as last year?
Hi John,
We've revamped our reading process this year in hopes of notifying applicants earlier than in previous years. Although we'll probably still be sending out news for the full March 15 - April 15 period, our goal is to have most of it finished before the end of March.
